The total number of posts proposed under the support budget for 2006 2007 is 2,797 (983 international Professionals, 263 national Professionals and 1,551 General Service and other categories of staff), as compared with the authorized staffing for 2004 2005 of 2,717 (930 international Professionals, 258 national Professionals and 1,529 General Service and other categories of staff).

Four international professional staff are seconded from other UNDG members.

Core UNMOVIC staff in the Professional category at Headquarters at present total 50 weapons experts and other personnel drawn from 24 nationalities, nine of whom are women.

As indicated in table 4 of document DP FPA 2005 13, the total number of proposed posts for 2006 2007 is 1,031 (234 International Professional, 263 National Professional and 534 General Service and other categories of staff), reflecting an increase of 59 posts (20 International Professional, 38 National Professional and 1 General Service and other categories of staff), as compared with the 972 approved posts for 2004 2005.

The proposed number of posts under the support budget for 2006 2007 would therefore increase by 80 posts (53 international Professionals, 5 national Professionals and 22 General Service and other categories of staff).

Only the chemicals contained in Annexes A, B and C of the Convention are considered in the context of Article 16.

The Finance and Information Systems Section comprises 7 posts 2 Professional and 5 General Service (Other level).

The Participation, Entitlements and Contributions Section comprises 13 posts 3 Professional and 10 General Service (Other level).

These include 113 Professional and 108 General Service posts at headquarters, 2 Professional and 1 General Service posts in Geneva and 324 Professional and 424 local General Service posts in the field.

72. Staffing resources have been increased to 13 posts, 10 of which are at the Professional level.

Of these, 31 are international professionals, 41 are national professionals and 101 are support staff posts. A breakdown of the various sub components under this category is as follows

(vii) Proposals on the introduction of a probationary period for successful candidates in the competitive examination for promotion to the Professional category of staff members from other categories

The ICSC secretariat had reduced its strength by 1 Professional and 1 General Service staff member from the biennium 1994 1995 from its resources of 11 Professional and 13 General Service staff.

(d) Protecting persons in the legal, medical and health care professions, the media and other related professions, and human rights defenders

This effectively requires considerable time and effort on the part of its Professional and supervisory staff.
