The retail sector includes two main types of retailers store and non store retailers.

The second important group was manufacturing (14.5 ), followed by construction (12.5 ), community, social and personal services (11.2 ), transport, storage and communication (9.4 ) and wholesale retail trade (8.6 ).

In the total employment by sectors in 1996, services share was 22.6 per cent, Government of Guam 20.2 per cent, retail 19.0 per cent, construction 11.1 per cent, transport and utilities 8.8 per cent, finance, insurance, real estate 3.9 per cent, wholesale 3.3 per cent, manufacturing 2.5 per cent and agriculture 0.5 per cent.11

The two year pilot project aims to facilitate over twenty such business linkages in agribusiness, real estate development, retail merchandising, manufacturing and telecommunication.

In the service sector, the decline is even worse than in manufacturing, because services are heavily regulated and partially closed to foreign competition. The distribution sector includes commission agents, wholesalers and retailers who act as enablers of trade.

Mass consumption in China and other emerging economies is coming of age in the Internet era. In spite of recent developments, retailing continues to be one of the least developed industries in India, and the growth of organized retailing has been much slower than in the rest of the world.

The internationalization of the retail industry has been led by European firms.
