As was stated earlier, there is special labour protection of certain categories of workers and employees in order to guarantee their genuine equality in the labour process.

427. In Greenland fair wages, equal for the same type of work, are ensured through the collective agreements entered into by the public authorities and the labour organizations.

Any certificate accepted by the Ministry of Education will automatically be recognized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security

The ILO also helped the Ministry of Labour to strengthen its labour market information system and to create an employment task force.

209. On 29 December, the Democratic Centre for Labour Rights in Gaza reported that the Israeli authorities had recently begun withdrawing work permits from Gaza labourers heading for Israel. The Centre stated that the workers who had lost their permits were those who had refused to work as informers for Israel s GSS, the Shin Bet.

Expatriate personnel working in Algeria under commercial contracts are issued a work permit by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Of particular use has proved to be the initiative for active partnership of the ILO Administrative Council carried out by the ILO team for Central and Eastern Europe.

The ILO indicated that it was not possible to provide any of the other information requested since the country of residence was an entirely personal matter and ILO had not been informed of any visa requirement problems faced by individual staff members.

The STPS ensures compliance with occupational safety and health provisions by means of inspection visits to work centres.

Access to labour market, without work permit, for spouses and children living at home as well as assistance seeking employment

Pregnant workers, who, as prescribed by a doctor, have to take leave, have the right to unilaterally terminate the contract.

The Committee is concerned about the lack of legislative provisions ensuring access of persons with disabilities to the labour market.

This prevents women from joining unions or from proving their rural worker status in any other way, and even prevents their request for benefits, since the Ministry for Social Welfare requires the presentation of an identification document, in addition to the need to provide proof of rural work.

15. Recently, in a speech delivered on 1 May 1996 as part of the Labour Day celebrations, President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali decided to increase the guaranteed minimum wage in the industrial and agricultural sectors.

(i) Working conditions The worker must prove he has had the technical, occupational or work training for this type of work experience, by means of a certificate recognized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.

430. There is nothing in the law which prevents membership of a labour organization, the establishment of a labour organization or joint efforts by labour organizations.

The basic guarantee for its payment is contained in article 245, paragraph 1, of the Labour Code, which reads as follows A worker or an employee is guaranteed, provided they duly and faithfully implement their labour obligations, the payment of a monthly remuneration to the amount of the minimum monthly wage valid for the whole of the country .

Myanmar has been cooperating with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in resolving the issue of forced labour.

Particular emphasis was placed on the development of labour legislation through the ratification and implementation of international labour standards, especially the ILO conventions.

The Special Rapporteur welcomes the decision of the Israeli authorities to increase to 55,000 the number of work permits issued to Palestinian labourers allowing them to work in Israel, and calls for further increases in the near future.
