The prospect of falling prices reflects the collapse of industrial production, the resulting high level of unemployment, and the dramatic decline in commodity prices. Industrial production is falling at double digit rates in the negative inflation countries, and the price index for all commodities is down more than 30 over the past year.

Commodity prices are like this.

Use of the 1991 local producer prices from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ( FAO ) instead of the market prices from FAO and the Iranian Ministry of Commerce.

There is also the issue of the so called reserve price (the highest price a buyer is willing to pay for a good or service). The reserve price places a cap on how high commodity prices will go, as it is the price at which demand destruction occurs (consumers are no longer willing or able to purchase the good or service).

It is necessary to innovate supervision methods and working methods, strengthen the propagandization of price laws and regulations for online and offline commodity retail enterprises and e commerce platforms, urge operators to improve price promotion programs, and investigate and handle illegal activities such as making up original prices, misleading price indications, non performance of price commitments and other illegal acts.

CAMBRIDGE The prices of hydrocarbons, minerals, and agricultural commodities have been on a veritable roller coaster. While commodity prices are always more variable than those for manufactured goods and services, commodity markets over the last five years have seen extraordinary, almost unprecedented, volatility.

Why Are Commodity Prices Falling?

For the big companies, it's reputational risk, but more importantly, they don't care what the price of commodities is.

There has been a steady effort to arrive at market based prices for energy commodities, and prices of some of them (notably oil products) have for some years been derived from the world market price.

A review of the retail sector in the last 20 years has revealed that the rise of e commerce was similar to the emergence of discount retailers many years ago both were focused on price and convenience.

Prices that are usually observed are those paid by domestic consumers and to foreign suppliers in the presence of an NTB.

Higher prices for commodity exports, including oil in the case of Papua New Guinea, and increased tourism supported positive growth.

In my ongoing quest to become better at forecasting, I began, a few years ago, to pay attention to the five year forward oil price as it compares to the Brent crude oil spot price, the price of a barrel of oil today. I suspect that the five year forward price is much less influenced by speculation in the oil market than the spot price, and more representative of true commercial needs.

Most of the hotel rates are better than the normal published rates and are commissionable to travel agents at 10 per cent of the gross selling price and 14 per cent for CTO agents.

The slow progress in the R amp D and commercialization of technologies may also be attributed partly to the low pricing of conventional sources.

Unstable prices for commodities were a serious issue.

With regard to commodity prices it was suggested that income, rather than price, fluctuations are the real problem.

Now, over the last century, we tend to think of commodity exchanges as the purview of Western industrialized countries, and that the reference prices for cotton, coffee, cocoa products produced mainly in the south are actually a reference price, or a price discovered in these organized commodity exchanges in the northern countries.

In cases where the transaction value of export goods cannot be identified, the customs, after acquiring the relevant information and consulting with the taxpayer on the value, shall evaluate the customs value of the goods in line with the following sequence

(e) To secure reasonable consumer prices of agricultural goods.

The prices of oil and many primary commodities have slipped.

Of course, technological advances, like hydraulic fracturing ( fracking ) in the shale gas industry, could increase supply and therefore lower prices. But mounting environmental challenges, and the limited availability of commodity substitutes, suggest that a reprieve on commodity prices is not near.

But, though inflation is very low, and even negative in a few countries, something more must be going on, because commodity prices are falling relative to the overall price level. In other words, real commodity prices are falling.

Many delegations drew attention to the continuing volatility of primary commodity prices and to the fact that in real terms commodity prices are still lower today than they were some 20 years ago.
