Accreditation of intergovernmental organizations to the United Nations Forum on Forests

Italy believes that other international forums can effectively support the important role played by the United Nations system.

Once such procedures are seen to be sound and beyond question, the accreditation of NIs in international forums could be commensurate with the institution's accreditation to the ICC.

As to the appropriate forums for such clarification and revision, Germany is of the opinion that all options, including the one foreseen in article 23, paragraph 2, of the statute of the International Law Commission, should be considered.

The secretariat of the United Nations Forum on Forests has reviewed the credentials of the following intergovernmental organizations that have requested accreditation to the Forum

The Social Forum invites the international community to recognize the need for the voices of those impacted by projects (including but not limited to the poor) to be heard in international forums such as the Social Forum and in the international financial institutions, including the World Bank.

The need for internationally recognized certification and accreditation system was also stressed and the work of the Quality System Assessment and Recognition (QSAR) and the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) was highlighted in this respect.
