III. SUB SAHARAN AFRICA

Now Africa, Sub Saharan Africa Sub Saharan Africa has been the area of the world most resistant to growth.

I would say that sub Saharan Africa has done best in the world during the last 50 years.

Totals may not add up due to rounding.

The same is true for sub Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia.

It's interesting to see the enormous diversity within sub Saharan Africa.

That had been the basis for the struggle for independence in the southern African subregion.

5. Net transfer of financial resources of sub Saharan Africa, 1987 1997

Sub Saharan Africa is not alone in having yet to achieve its potential.

But let me split sub Saharan Africa. Health is there and better health is up there.

Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, Oceania and Sub Saharan Africa are all above the 60 per cent level.

In sub Saharan Africa, it accounts for nearly 80 per cent of all commercial energy used.

In Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, Sub Saharan Africa and Europe, the trend in the abuse of cannabis is on the increase (see figure I).

Most of these youths are to be found in parts of sub Saharan Africa, Western Asia and the former Soviet Union.

Moreover, their number has been rising by some 4 per cent per annum in recent years in sub Saharan Africa and Latin America.

South Asia has the largest number of youth living below the two poverty lines, followed by sub Saharan Africa.

A third partnership, initiated by South Africa, the United States and IAEA, was established specifically for sub Saharan Africa.

This is especially true of the least developed countries and the rural areas of countries in sub Saharan Africa.

Broad subregions, in particular, sub Saharan Africa, are off track in meeting the Millennium Development Goals.

Countries will be selected from all subregions in sub Saharan Africa.

Most of the conflict ridden areas, particularly sub Saharan Africa, are major recipients of small arms.

In particular, sub Saharan Africa did not suffer a deterioration in net financial transfers in 1997.

The prevalence of HIV AIDS is rapidly approaching the 9 per cent average of sub Saharan Africa.

The unemployment rate is very high in sub Saharan Africa and South Asia and is increasing in some developed countries.

There is such a difference within Sub Saharan Africa.

The coverage has remained stable in Europe, East and South East Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean and has declined in Sub Saharan Africa.

The number of poor is rising rapidly in Europe and Central Asia and continuing to rise in Latin America and sub Saharan Africa.

Like, you know, just as you get into the malaria zone, sub Saharan Africa.

The highest maternal mortality rates are in sub Saharan Africa, South Asia and some countries in East Asia and the Pacific region.

This is already beginning to happen in Sub Saharan Africa.

Both North Africa and sub Saharan Africa have shared in this experience.

In many parts of sub Saharan Africa, the droughts are so much worse.

UNDCP also has substantial project activities in sub Saharan Africa, central and eastern Europe and south Asia and at the global level.

At the same time, sub Saharan Africa has stagnated.

B. Sustainability of recovery in sub Saharan Africa

That possibility justified the focus of international support on Africa, in particular the sub Saharan region.

There appears to be a need for special attention in this regard in North Africa, the Middle East and, above all, Sub Saharan Africa.

Latin America and sub Saharan Africa were found to be the regions in which it takes the most time to start a business.

Most under five deaths are clustered in two regions sub Saharan Africa (44 per cent) and South Asia (32 per cent2).

The lowest coverage levels continue to be in sub Saharan Africa, despite recent progress there.
