In addition to over 300 staff members who attended training sessions in 2004, a second round of training sessions will train a minimum of 150 field staff during the first half of 2005.

The estimate further reflects consultant services provided for the UNMIS training programmes covering areas such as civil affairs orientation programmes, people management training, training national officers in disarmament, demobilization and reintegration practices, negotiation and conflict resolution, Arabic language training for international staff, English language training for national staff and first aid training.

Training of members

Efforts have also continued to strengthen capacities through social mobilization and training of health staff and community workers, as in Cambodia, which has trained some 3,000 village health volunteers, and in Ethiopia and Ghana.

The Procurement and Logistics Division is working with CIPS, the internal training cadre and the UNRWA training coordinator to ensure that training is offered and made as accessible as possible to all Procurement and Logistics Division staff in all locations.

(iii) Provide or facilitate specialized training and the formation of professional volunteer managers and trainers in the area of formal service volunteering, including by introducing formal credentials and standards

In the framework of the project, training will be provided primarily to trainers and 300 civil servants, and training strategies will be drawn up.

On 11 June, UNOMIG and the Estonian Public Service Academy signed a memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation, including the provision of basic police training and training of the trainers for law enforcement officers.

With a view to increasing the accountability and professionalism of the police, during the reporting period, professional ethics offices were opened in the districts.

Regarding customs training, in all countries visited, the train the trainer programme had been completed, but implementation of the second phase of officer training had frequently experienced delays.
