Primary education enrolment is over 91.5 per cent.

A significant push to increase primary school enrolments has raised the enrolment of boys to 67 per cent and girls to almost 40 per cent.

In Kuwait, there was a high literacy and school enrolment rate for girls and women, who represented more than 50 per cent of primary and secondary school enrolment, and more than 37 per cent of enrolment at the university level.

Enrolment in primary education is high in Sri Lanka.

The enrolment rate is 98 per cent for men and 96 per cent for women for elementary education, 56.3 per cent for men and 57.5 per cent for women for secondary education, 18.4 per cent for men and 21.3 per cent for women in higher education.

Gross enrolment in primary schools now averages 99 per cent.

The adult literacy rate was 68 per cent and primary school enrolment was 90 per cent.

While a significant campaign to increase primary school enrolment has raised the enrolment of girls to almost 40 per cent, compared to 67 per cent for boys, overall school enrolment among girls remains among the lowest in the world, with less than 10 per cent of girls enrolled in secondary school.

In some countries, primary education enrolment and adult literacy had increased markedly.

At present, almost 94.5 per cent of Vietnamese children are enrolled in primary schools, and the overall rate for girls is only a fraction of a percentage point less than that of boys.

In the area of education for all, net enrolment in primary education was 84.5 per cent in 2005 with 74.5 per cent being able to complete its full course.

Bangladesh has one of the highest primary school enrolment rates in the developing world.

Please provide information on the percentage of enrolment of girls and boys in the primary school and drop out rates respectively, both in urban and rural areas.

A third programme provided income to mothers whose children were in school and had pushed primary school enrolment to 98 per cent.

But thanks to the effort developed by the government, at the primary education level, the ratio of girls who attend this system has come to increase year after year.

(b) School enrolment rates

231. Attendance at schools, colleges and universities is greater among women in all age groups between 5 and 29 years than for men in the same groups.

10.2 Enrolment of Learners in Schools

Bangladesh had the highest primary school enrolment rates in the developing world and had already achieved gender parity in both primary and secondary schools.

Primary school enrolment in Kenya has also increased tremendously due to the implementation of free primary education programmes in the last two years.

Such programmes contribute to higher primary school enrolment and completion rates, and to the retention of female teachers.

Primary school enrolment had increased to 86 per cent in the 2003 04 academic year although some gender disparity still existed, with enrolment rates for girls and boys being 83 per cent and 89 per cent respectively in 2003 2004.

Participation and retention

Primary school fees and uniforms had been abolished and school books were supplied free, generating an increase in girls' school attendance.

Considerable improvements have also been achieved in secondary enrolment rates.

More children of school going age are entering school, as reflected by the modest gain in the primary school gross enrolment rate, which increased from 75.7 per cent in 1999 to 79.5 per cent in 2002 and 81.1 in 2003.

3. Performance of the education system (enrolment, graduation and drop out rates)

The primary school (first level) drop out rate for the 1992 93 school year was 3.5 per cent.

Increases in enrolment have not necessarily been accompanied by reductions in the gender gap.

Primary school net enrolment has steadily increased to reach 91 per cent, with 96 per cent in urban areas and 85 per cent in rural areas.

School attendance is very high in Aruba up to age 15, attendance is well above 95 .

There have been improvements in the level of school enrolment, as well as a 30 per cent reduction in drop out rates.

Drop out rates at the primary and secondary school levels were 3.5 and 5 per cent, respectively, in 1993.

The remarkable difference between the number of children enrolled in primary education and those in secondary education indicative of a very high dropout rate is extremely alarming, as is the lopsidedness in favour of boys.

That said, over the 17 year period from 1993 to 2010, the number of girls enrolled in primary education increased from 3.7 million to 8.3 million. This implies a rate of growth of 6.7 a year, about 2.5 times the rate of increase in the number of girls entering the primary school age cohort.

In rural areas, in particular, enrollment includes 90 of boys and 80 of girls.

The percentage of indigenous children enrolled in primary school is 11.3, while the national enrolment rate is 85 per cent.

In terms of the net enrolment rate in the first year of primary, the gap was 18.8 points in 1975 76 but only 2.2 points in 1994 95.

342. The same development can be seen in the net rates of attendance at public primary school (6 12 years), which rose from 83.6 to 91 per cent between 1984 85 and 1994 95, and in the net rates of attendance by six year olds, which increased during the same period from 92 to 98 per cent.

The highest enrolment rate is in pre primary education and vocational education has the highest drop out rate (Figure 30).
