Ms. WATERS (President of the United Nations Staff Committee and the Coordinating Committee of International Staff Unions and Associations) said that the staff unions and associations of the United Nations Secretariat had noted that the Fifth Committee had debated the issue of gratis personnel with great concern, sincerity and a true desire to achieve a mediated solution of the problem.

All relevant functional commissions, including the Commission on Human Rights and the Commission on the Status of Women, as well as the Commission on Human Settlements, should provide inputs to this examination.

The Chairman of the Committee also made a statement and drew the attention of the Committee to a letter addressed to him by the President of the United Nations Staff Union.

The Working Group of the Commission on Human Rights continues its work with the aim of submitting a final text to the Commission by its fifty fifth session.

STATUS OF THE PROPOSED AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNITED NATIONS JOINT

During the past four years FAFICS has participated in all sessions of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Board, the Standing Committee of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Board as well as the several special Working Groups that were established by the UN Pension Board.
