The situation of civil and political rights in Equatorial Guinea was considered during the seventy ninth session without a report and delegation.

10. The Committee has a significant backlog of States parties apos reports awaiting consideration.

As at 30 April 2005, there were two new candidate chemicals for consideration by the Chemical Review Committee at its second meeting.

We look forward to further clarity with respect to information offered for the Commission's consideration.

The Committee would expect a progress report when it next takes up the matter in spring summer 2005.

The Secretariat looked forward to careful consideration by the Committee of the budget as a whole and to its support for the provision of the necessary resources to ensure a successful follow up to the resolution adopted by the Summit in September.

The Executive Director of the FTC commented on the peer review process and on how to improve it, and outlined FTC's expectations on the outcome.

The dates of this examination are yet to be determined by the Council.

The Committee had been able to consider 47 reports in 2006 and thus reduce the backlog of reports pending consideration owing to its meeting in parallel chambers, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 59 261.

The Special Committee looks forward to reviewing this strategy at its next session. The Special Committee looks forward to status reports by the Department to Member States on the progress of those initiatives.

The Committee further recommends that the persons responsible for the ill treatment be prosecuted and punished, and victims granted compensation.

At the same time, the Commission should keep under review the entitlements of staff of funds and programmes serving in the field, so as to bring any unjustified increase to the attention of the General Assembly.

Implementation is pending approval of the two additional information technology auditor posts requested by the Office, and the preparation of an audit strategy for information technology.

At each session, the Committee, based on the list of reports awaiting consideration, shall decide which reports of States parties it will consider at its subsequent session, bearing in mind the duration of the subsequent session and the criteria of date of submission and geographical balance.

The Committee decided to defer its consideration of the applications of the following 11 organizations pending the receipt of responses to questions posed by the Committee at its 2005 regular session or owing to lack of time

In the light of this mixed record of reform in standby arrangements, I share the view of the Special Committee that a comprehensive review of UNSAS is required.

A decision on the Federation s return would only be taken by its full membership after the General Assembly had considered the Working Group s report.
