The first meeting of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region restored hope that peace, stability and development can return to the region.

Communities have actively participated in the rehabilitation of their environment.

Thailand accords priority to the strengthening of the resilience of local communities in the affected areas.

It also encourages and facilitates the resumption of farming in the buffer zone.

The development of the National Recovery Strategy and the establishment of National and District Recovery Committees also helped to ensure national ownership and contributed to the development of national capacity.

They identify three distinct regional trends zones experiencing crisis, zones experiencing recovery, and zones experiencing transition from crisis to recovery.

The sooner stability is brought to the region, the better it will be for that country and the rest of the world.

The region has not recovered the livelihoods lost as a result of the nuclear accident.
