Investments shall be recorded in an investment ledger, which shall show all the relevant details for each investment, including, for example, face value, cost, date of maturity, place of deposit, proceeds of sale and income earned.

Investment strategy is simply the long term allocation of monies among the various asset types and investment markets.

27. There are three main categories of private resource flow loans, foreign direct investment (FDI), and portfolio equity investment.

Article 35Where part of the held to maturity investment is sold or the re classified amount thereof is considerably large, and if it does not fall within any of the exceptions as described in Article 16, so that the remainder of the said investment is no longer suitable to be classified as a held to maturity investment, the enterprise shall re classify the remainder of the said investment as a sellable financial asset, and shall make subsequent measurement on it according to its fair value.

The Chairperson of the Expert Meeting on Investment Promotion and Development Objectives, referring to the issue of classification of investment recipient countries, said that in its agreed conclusions the Expert Meeting had sought not to make any distinction between countries in order to achieve the broadest consensus possible.

31. In addition, to enable investors to minimize their risks and to diversify their portfolios, there is a need to widen the investment sphere. This requires assisting the MFIs which are potentially eligible for this kind of investment in making their case vis à vis potential investors.

However, a full understanding of the types and levels of such investments is still lacking.

The drivers of OFDI from developing countries fall into two broad groups

The investment officer will conduct research to recommend appropriate alternative asset classes for the Fund, plan appropriate investment deployment, initiate and lead the selection of external alternative managers, and monitor and evaluate those managers in order to ensure that the alternative investments add value to the Fund's overall investments in terms of both return enhancement and diversification.

The Expert Meeting had recommended that UNCTAD adopt a new system of classification of FDI recipient countries, and that classification could be useful not only in UNCTAD s analytical work (the World Investment Report) but also in its technical assistance activities.

This two waves classification accommodates not only the impact of liberalization of OFDI policy through changes in the quantum of OFDI flows but also changes in the character and motivations of OFDI.

Portfolio flows and foreign direct investment (FDI) posted the strongest growth, accounting for more than two thirds of total private inflows.

Such investment had fallen by 90 per cent at the start of 2003.

A significant portion of foreign direct investment should be directed to the LDCs, and the positive contribution of such investment to their development should be ensured.

The more successful investment promotion programmes target specific types of investors.

Investment issues analysis

The investment officer who covers the emerging markets would be assigned to head the team dealing with emerging markets, real estate investments and alternative investments.

One fifth of respondents named these factors as an outcome of their OFDI activities.

17. The major types of long term financial flows to Africa can be broadly categorized as official development finance (OF), foreign direct investment (FDI), and private loans.

But in any investment decision, the key question is, What is my alternative investment?

(d) Alternative investments offer the opportunity for an enhanced risk return profile for a pension investment portfolio.

International assistance is a key investment in human development.

Circumstances have forced more and more investors to look for new investment opportunities by adding unconventional asset classes and applying new investment theories and technologies to meet their investment requirements.

Considering the relatively small portion of the Fund's asset invested in such equities, one can easily understand that outsourcing this type of investment is a reasonable option.

For the profit distributed by overseas investors from domestic enterprises in China used for the scope of application of no withholding income tax policy for domestic direct investment, the foreign investment encouraged projects should be extended to all non prohibited foreign investment projects and fields.

Disaggregated data from the Ministry for Social Development income transfer programs, by administrative region, demonstrate the investments made by the Government.

(33) As regards investment yield, it is required to make disclosure of investment yield in current year and that in last year by securities category (like government securities and funds, etc.).
