The law on adoption has not changed since the previous report.

Both while drawing up the regulations governing adoption and in the actual process of handling adoptions involving parties abroad, China has adhered firmly to the principle of the best interests of the child, and has consistently sought to strengthen the standing in law of the complete adoption the Hague Convention advocates.

The amount of the pension will depend on the number of years of service, which will vary between 15 and 29 and will itself vary between 50 and 95 of a full pension.

The change in the level of pension benefits is well illustrated by the change in their relation to the average wage, which was 49 per cent and 62 per cent in 1985 and 1993 respectively.

The Adoption Act, as amended on 4 November 1998, combined the three documents previously necessary  the adoption registration, a written agreement and a notarized written agreement  into one single registration document, which served to strengthen the State's powers in the process and ensure protection of the child's rights through the involvement and oversight of government agencies.
