It is not policy space that will contribute positively to development, but good economic policy, and it is good policy, not policy space, that should be the focus of UNCTAD's work.

Together with the non official members of the Executive Council, they assist the Chief Executive in policy making.

7. At its substantive session, the Council considered the question of follow up to policy recommendations of the General Assembly (agenda item 3 (b)) at its 24th, 25th and 47th meetings, on 13 and 31 July.

In order to bring such thinking into the policy and decision making mainstream, the World Commission had recommended several actions, including the organization of a ministerial level meeting on cultural policies in 1998.

The minutes released by the Bank of Japan earlier on Monday showed that the policy committee of the Bank of Japan discussed the problem of rising costs of the long term easing policy at the interest rate meeting in September.

20. Leaders welcomed the outcomes of the Forum Aviation Policy Ministers Meeting and recognized the value of the sectoral policy meeting format adopted in this case.

The Committee recommends that a prudent policy with a view to vehicle sharing be developed.

It will also cover policy, education and training issues.

World Bank UNCTAD Conference on Competition Policy and International Trade

Non governmental organizations are encouraged to discuss policy issues and programme strategies, to contribute to draft policy papers and to participate in the relevant conferences.

There would then be an informal interactive meeting devoted to a policy dialogue that would include two panel discussions on policy relevant issues.

6. At its various meetings, the Standing Committee also reviewed programme policy issues.
