Kicking the Oil Habit

My car burns a lot of gas.

Keep burning up their gas.

Based on average daily consumption of 15 litres per vehicle for gasoline powered vehicles and 30 litres per vehicle for diesel powered vehicles at 0.4491 and 0.3535 per litre for gasoline and diesel fuel, respectively, plus oil and lubricants at 10 per cent of the fuel cost.

That's all the U.S. usage today.

Of these fuels, oil is the most critical.

That is 0.5 percent of the U.S. oil consumption.

Based on fuel consumption of 20 litres daily per vehicle.

Based on fuel consumption of 750 litres per hour at 0.3583 per litre, plus oil and lubricants at 10 per cent of the fuel cost.

Based on fuel consumption of 340 litres per hour at 0.3583 per litre, plus oil and lubricants at 10 per cent of the fuel cost.

Is all of this oil consumption really necessary?

Tuna and swordfish fisheries are especially petroleum hungry, with energy consumption three times the average.

If we want to encourage change of behavior, gallons per mile would have far more effectiveness.

It is anticipated that each vehicle would consume an average of 20 litres of fuel daily for a total consumption for the 11.6 month period of 453,440 litres at a cost of 0.66 per litre ( 299,300) 10 per cent of the fuel cost is provided for oils and lubricants ( 29,900).

It's produced to get sulfur out of gasoline which I find is somewhat ironic.

Add that together with the gas, and it's 112,000 per year, just for that sign in each direction.
