FIELD OF CRIME PREVENTION AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE FOR THE

The FCIU has been assigned the responsibility for investigations of financial related crimes especially in the area of money laundering and the tracing of assets and property representing proceeds of crime.

The areas of focus include those related to the suppression of trans national organized crime in the migration sector, particularly smuggling and trafficking.

The scope of this task covers 8 designated areas terrorism, trafficking of illicit drugs, human trafficking, money laundering, arms smuggling, sea piracy, international economic crimes and cyber crimes.

In the case of an offence against the security of the State, counterfeiting of the State seal or the national currency in circulation, the offence committed outside the territory of the Republic shall be punishable on the same basis as an offence committed in its territory.

The instrument covers three categories of crimes crimes against the person, crimes against property and types of (transnational) organized crime.
