24. The Global Environment Information Centre (GEIC), a joint project of UNU and the Environment Agency of Japan, completed its first year of operation in 1997.

A Commission for Environmental Cooperation has been set up by those three States to enhance regional environmental cooperation and coordinate regulatory and enforcement mechanisms.
