The Security Council must be alert to impending threats to the security and lives of innocent people.

Of particular urgency is the need to reform the Security Council the organ responsible for the maintenance of global peace and security to allow it better to cope with the various threats to our safe and secure existence.

Noting with satisfaction that the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management entered into force on 18 June 2001,

Such authorization, which bears the name of the grantee, is issued by the Director of the Agence française de sécurité sanitaire des produits de santé (AFSSAPS French Health Products Safety Agency).

The Department of Safety and Security and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations had accepted all 20 recommendations resulting from the global security management audit.

The UNEP GEF Biosafety Unit manages 8 of the 12 GEF funded demonstration projects on implementation of national biosafety frameworks.

We note with concern that Africa remains the context for the majority of issues before the Security Council, accounting for 60 percent of its agenda.

Two thirds of the members of the Security Council are elected by the General Assembly. This shows that the Security Council depends on the General Assembly for its very existence and functioning.

In order to ensure effectiveness and successful results, the Council must focus on threats to international peace and security.

The biosafety outstation conducts research on the biosafety of genetically modified organisms.

The Security Council welcomes the appointment of Mr. Charles Konan Banny as Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire, and expresses its full support for him.

(d) Access and better participation of non member States of the Security Council in the work of the Security Council

Security Council expansion is necessary and will have far reaching consequences.

Other projects subsequently approved by the Global Environment Facility Council were (a) a global project to assist up to 100 countries to develop their national biosafety frameworks (b) a series of demonstration projects for 12 countries that had a draft regulatory regime in place to implement their national biosafety frameworks and (c) the Biosafety Clearing House project.

Information management and information security are two aspects of the information age that have major implications for international peace, security and disarmament.
