The Fund's objectives

The GEF resources for these projects vary in size, but are typically of the order of US 300,000.

Its financial resources are generated by voluntary contributions from Tunisian individuals, the private sector and the State.

That agreement would allow the Fund to strengthen its financial base relative to the size of the world economy.

The Foundation primarily pursues the following objectives

The COP took note of the information on the current level of funding for medium sized, full sized and enabling activity projects, the GEF small grants programme, and funding that was pledged to the Special Climate Change Fund and the Least Developed Countries Fund.

Unemployment benefits are paid from the Labour Fund which is the State target fund.

The Fund's information technology staff currently represent less than 15 per cent of its total staff, which is in the low to acceptable range for an organization of its size.

I encourage donors to continue lending support to these important, small scale projects by making additional contributions to the Trust Fund.

The goal of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) is to help reduce poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the least developed countries (LDCs).

A major part of the funding for the African reports in preparation to for CRIC 3 was secured through a medium sized GEF project.

As to the level of the Fund apos s budget, the Secretary stressed the servicing nature of the operations of the Fund and the size and scope of its activities.

Small pilot projects of direct benefit to communities will also be funded.

In addition, where agencies have received funds on a grant basis from the Fund under objectives 1 and 2, and where such agencies have subsequently raised other funds for the same purpose, it will be incumbent upon the agency to reimburse the Fund.

Community infrastructure will support, in the form of grants on a cost sharing basis, small scale community infrastructure sub projects to improve the quality of life of the poor.

Baseline scope

In collaboration with the secretariat, UNEP has prepared a medium sized project on this initiative which UNEP has submitted to the secretariat of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for consideration.

Objective 2 develop, implement and monitor the Fund's technology infrastructure.
