(i) Training courses, seminars and workshops seminars on indigenous rights (4) major contributions to seminars for outside users organized by the OHCHR secretariat and other seminars

It was agreed to hold a seminar on the electoral process in early February.

The workshops held during the Ninth Congress were an integral part of its proceedings.

The participants had before them a draft agenda, a draft programme of work and documents prepared by participating experts (documentation made available for the workshop is listed in annex II).

Notes and agenda of the seminar on enhancing and strengthening the effectiveness of the special procedures of the Commission on Human Rights

The workshop reviewed global and regional Research Agenda documents in the light of new challenges and emerging priorities on ageing explored the contribution of the Research Agenda to monitoring of the Madrid Plan of Action proposed updates for the global Research Agenda document and considered steps to promote and distribute it.

V. SEMINARS, CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS

Three subregional workshops, which were held in Africa in February 2005, constituted the last stage of this process and summaries of their proceedings are given in this document together with their recommendations.

While the agenda of the African regional seminar provided for detailed discussion of female genital mutilation, son preference and traditional birth practices, the priority concerns at the Asian regional seminar were son preference and traditional practices related to marriage.

Agenda of the seminar

The subject was highlighted when it was placed on the agenda of the health theme experts' workshop in 2002.

Recent seminars were organized in Prague (1993), in Sofia (1994) and in Warsaw (1995).

The seminar was held for 10 continuous weeks, with three training sessions per week.

46. At its 20th to 24th sessions inclusive the Commission postponed the discussion of the agenda item relating to this study.

The workshop was conducted in plenary meetings.

ESCAP plans to hold the following seminars, symposia and meetings

In accordance with the provisional agenda endorsed by the General Assembly in its resolution 52 56 as contained in the report of the Advisory Committee on its 1997 session, the Conference would include additional components in the form of workshops and seminars, poster sessions, public evening lectures and an exhibition.

The Commission should continue to examine the items on its agenda at its 1998 session, which should be held in two parts.

Several regional as well as worldwide meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences have been held.

In addition, a number of diploma and other courses, workshops, seminars and meetings have been organized (44 in all) they were attended by 3,014 persons.

The participants at the seminar adopted a series of recommendations which are contained in the report of the seminar (E CN.4 Sub.2 AC.5 1997 WP.5).
