Budget deficit

We have vast budget deficits.

BERKELEY The United States is beset by four deficits a fiscal deficit, a jobs deficit, a deficit in public investment, and an opportunity deficit. The budget proposals put forward by presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, could reduce the fiscal deficit, but would exacerbate the other three.

A deficit?

The State budget deficit has increased by almost 2 per cent of GDP.

There is nothing progressive about large budget deficits and a rising debt to GDP ratio. After all, large deficits have no reliable effect on reducing unemployment, and deficit reduction can be consistent with falling unemployment.

If there are investors willing to finance U.S. government budget deficit, why wouldn't we find investors willing to finance press freedom deficit?

Output growth in the US remains anemic, and the economy continues to face three significant deficits a jobs deficit, an investment deficit, and a long run fiscal deficit, none of which is likely to be addressed in an election year.

The Energy Deficit

It is no less important to ensure a realistic budget next year, further tightening the budget deficit.

The overall budget deficit is still predicted to be 4.1 of Greece s GDP in 2013 a substantial improvement compared to 2010 but still far from fiscal balance. The difference between the overall deficit and the primary deficit implies that the interest on the Greek national debt this year will be 4.1 of GDP.

Fiscal consolidation. Large budget deficits are absorbing the national savings that should be used to expand business investment, and are increasing the national debt that will have to be financed by future taxes.

More worrying yet is the 22 million deficit in the election budget.

Already, it did not seem possible to continue work with a budget deficit for the fourth year in a row.

CAMBRIDGE The United States still faces a dangerous fiscal deficit, but one might not know it from the complacency that dominates budget discussions in Washington. Regarded as an urgent problem until recently, the federal deficit is now being placed on the back burner of American politics.

The budget aims for fiscal revenues to the extent of 1 billion, though donor support will have to cover a deficit of more than 1.17 billion.

If investors are unwilling to finance the French budget deficit that is, if France cannot borrow to finance that deficit France will be forced to default. That is why the market treats French bonds as riskier and demands a higher interest rate, even though France s budget deficit is 5.8 of its GDP, whereas Britain s budget deficit is 8.8 of GDP.

However, the key objective of reducing the public deficit in 1996 was not met, 47 per cent actual compared to 38 per cent planned (actual deficit in 1995 was 57 per cent and in 1994 it was 47 per cent).

The domestic budget deficit widened to 5.1 per cent of GDP in 2003 from 4.1 per cent in 2002.
