The Occupational Health and Safety Act

Amendment of the Labour Code (sect. X, Occupational safety and health)

The Occupational Health and Safety Act and the amendment act to the Product Safety Act provide for occupational health and safety requirements for work the duties of employers and workers in creating and ensuring a working environment which is safe for health the organisation of occupational health and safety in enterprises and at state level the procedure for conduct of administrative challenge proceedings, and liability for violation of the occupational health and safety requirements.

In addition to EU Directives, national legal acts on labour safety and health are being developed for those sectors of national economy where there is an increased risk for the health and safety of employees, for example work at electric installations, forest processing and timber industry, gas industry etc.

The occupational health and safety requirements for the work of pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding have been established by a Government Regulation of 2001.

The Federal Regulations on Safety and Health and the Working Environment provide (article 159) that persons between ages 14 and 16 may not be employed in dangerous or unhealthy occupations.

If any infringement of occupational safety and health provisions is ascertained, the inspector may take a decision obliging the manager to eliminate such infringement.
