Everything is not predictable the stock market is, at least for me, not predictable, but most complicated negotiations are predictable.

They are changing rapidly, but not predictably.

This is a significant downward revision of the 40 per cent projected in the national communication.

This description of stock markets in emerging countries is not wrong, just biased, because the same description applies to stock markets in advanced countries. Indeed, the best analysts know that forecasting the performance of any country's stock market substantially means forecasting how well the government wants stock market investors to fare in the current political environment.

The unstated assumption seems to be that, in contrast, some pristine force of economic nature drives stock markets in advanced countries, and that forecasting their performance is thus like forecasting the growth of trees.

But most people don t believe that the stock market will perform so well in the future. Siegel himself recently projected only a 6 average real return for US stocks over the next four decades.
