(a) Meetings with leaders of industry

During the year, a number of meetings were held on SME development, and UNCTAD attended those meetings held in Geneva and Paris (ILO Annual Meeting, Committee of Donor Agencies for SME Development, OECD Conference on Women Entrepreneurs in Small and Medium Enterprises) UNCTAD also attended and presented a paper at the Tenth International Conference of Small and Medium Enterprises, Florida, sponsored by the World Association for Small and Medium Enterprises.

If there are unions based on a trade and unions based on an enterprise or an industry in competition with one another, the first mentioned may conclude a collective agreement for its trade provided that the number of its members is greater than the number of workers in the same trade who are members of the union based on an enterprise or an industry.

Meetings were held, in association with Successful Meetings magazine, New York, with leading professional association representatives.

Taking note of the Plan of Action for the Alliance for Africa apos s Industrialization, adopted by the Conference of African Ministers of Industry at its thirteenth meeting, held at Accra in May 1997,See A 52 480, sect. IV.C.

Employers' organisations of industries and their associations conduct negotiations, enter into an agreement with trade unions of industries, and promote the prevention of conflicts caused by strikes and other conflicts at the industry level.

Further consultations with the organic sector took place in the context of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) Conference on Organic Agriculture and Biodiversity and the IFOAM Organic Coffee Conference.

EFCT was also able to mark 15 years as a member of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (whose Chair it currently occupies), which brings together the top 13 professional organizations worldwide in the conference industry.

This recommendation has been implemented.

A high level meeting on operational activities was held at its 19th to 21st meetings, on 9 July.

The Statistics Division held an expert group meeting on industrial statistics in September 2005, with the objective of reviewing the proposed amendments to current international recommendations for industrial statistics.

Business awareness and start your own business training courses were conducted during 1997 in addition to a number of follow up business counselling meetings.

In Egypt, for example, the Federation of Egyptian Industries has organized a Government Relations Committee which represents all sectoral chambers and reviews the National Business Agenda.

In the UNCTAD indicative calender of meetings for 1998, the third session of the Commission on Enterprise, Business Facilitation and Development is tentatively scheduled to take place in November 1998.

A participant also suggested that UNDP could assist in the implementation of EITI.

Hu advised that the Shenzhen Internet Finance Association could negotiate with insurers to make a forward looking attempt in the pilot city of the Internet finance program.

Further requests the Director General to inform periodically both the Industrial Development Board, beginning at its next session, and the General Conference on action taken in pursuance of the present resolution.

The twenty sixth session of the FAO Committee on Fisheries, from 7 to 11 March, was followed by a ministerial meeting on fisheries on 12 March, which adopted a declaration on fisheries and the tsunami and a declaration on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

The first session of the CST (CST 1) will therefore meet at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) during the first session of the Conference of the Parties.
