A multitude of Sudanese expressed their condolences to the leaders of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement Army (SPLM A) in the area.

Following the signing of the Declaration of Principles for the Resolution of the Sudanese Conflict in Darfur on 5 July 2005, the sixth round of Inter Sudanese Peace Talks on Darfur resumed in Abuja on 15 September, following a request from SLM A to postpone the sixth round of talks from the originally scheduled starting date of 24 August.

A decision of the Twenty second Summit of the Great Lakes Regional Peace Initiative on Burundi held in Dar es Salaam on 18 August 2004 declared PALIPEHUTU FNL a terrorist organization.

Nevertheless, the talks opened with an air of uncertainty regarding the cohesion of the SLM A delegation and the degree to which the faction of SLM A Secretary General Mini Arkoy Minawi was participating.

The Government, JEM and the Sudan Liberation Movement Army have attended these talks.

I therefore welcome the commitment made on 16 July by the Transitional Government to take forcible action to disarm FDLR.
