The Peace Implementation Council Steering Board welcomed, in particular, the establishment of the Fiscal Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina on 14 May and the extension of the mandate of the Fiscal Sustainability Working Group.

The presidency issued decrees to establish the Assessment and Evaluation Commission, the National Petroleum Commission, the Fiscal and Financial Allocation and Monitoring Commission and the Technical Ad Hoc Border Committee.

Ongoing discussions have been held with the Finance and Budget Network of the High level Committee on improvements to the financial statements.

138. The Committee notes the intention of the Government to reform its fiscal and monetary policy as a means of promoting social and economic development.

The programme and finance committees avoided budget cuts in areas related to women and development for the biennium 1998 1999.

In that connection, member States reaffirmed their commitment to contribute financially to the Committee apos s programme of activities.

The race in the new 17th has touched off a campaign finance slugfest between the major party finance arms, the Democratic Campaign Congressional Committee (DCCC) and the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC).

1. In accordance with established practice, the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) has issued a report on the Financial Reports and Audited Financial Statement and Reports of the Board of Auditors (A 51 533).

Has also served in a number of government and private sector committees including Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Working Group on Fiscal Policy and Barbados Direct Tax Review Committee.

The Prime Minister will soon chair the Economic and Fiscal Council, an advisory body to my Special Representative.

The Commission on Human Rights, in paragraph 8 (b) of its resolution 1994 61, identified financial assistance for the National Assembly Commission as a priority area.
