Fundline includes portfolio investment funds, private equity funds and companies, venture capital funds, mutual funds and other equity vehicles.

70. This involves activities related to the use of the mechanism of investment funds (country funds, venture capital funds or specific sectoral investment funds) to attract foreign investment flows in least developed countries.

Other complementary sources of equity capital may include investment funds and other so called institutional investors such as insurance companies, mutual funds or pension funds.

4. Other capital providers Capital providers other than commercial banks and international financial institutions may include institutional investors such as insurance companies, mutual funds, pension funds or investment funds.

All payments made in reimbursement of sums allocated from the Fund's resources and income from investment of its capital are added to its resources.

8. The liberalization of cross border flows had led to the internationalization of investments by institutional funds.

IV. INVESTMENTS OF THE FUND . 48 79 14

The Kuwait Investment Authority, also a state owned fund, holds 7 of Daimler. Singapore possesses two SWFs Temasek Holdings, with capital assets of roughly 100 billion, and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation, with approximately 330 billion.

Investments will be made subject to programme country demand, matched by adequate funding, and fulfillment of basic investment criteria.

While it was not possible to find a pension fund portfolio sufficiently similar to the Fund apos s against which investment returns might be compared, a strategic benchmark for the Fund had been implemented on 1 January 1997.

All LDCs that meet basic investment criteria will be able to benefit from UNCDF expertise and investment.

The Fund invests globally and has liabilities in a number of currencies.

3. Capital assets fund

11. Any cash balances in the Revolving Credit Fund would be invested and the income and capital gains or losses added to or substracted from the Fund.

Article 42 The Company shall make a disclosure by investment variety (like central bank bills, treasury bonds and funds, etc.) of the investment scale of self owned capital in the current year and the last year, proportion of various securities in investment of self owned capital, and proceeds during the reporting period, etc.

(33) As regards investment yield, it is required to make disclosure of investment yield in current year and that in last year by securities category (like government securities and funds, etc.).

It is assumed that 4.3 per cent of the Fund's assets are invested in small capitalization funds.

More fully integrated capital markets, to provide project capital and investment funds, are required in order to improve the whole infrastructure of the region.

Conditions for the creation of investment funds in LDCs

Notwithstanding the growth in the Fund s assets and a complex investment environment, there had been significant improvements in the efficiency and cost effectiveness of investment management.

Note SRF indicators 2.1.1 and 2.2.1 relate only to UNCDF investments, whereas 2.3.1 relates to both UNCDF and UNDP investments.

It is expected that other similar investment funds will be established, which should increase the amount, and consequently decrease the costs, of funds available for lending to the poor.

Income derived from investments, other than trust fund investments, shall be credited to the general fund as miscellaneous income.

The issues to be considered will include (a) prospects for, and constraints on, foreign investment flows to LDCs, through investment funds such as country funds and venture capital funds (b) investment opportunities in LDCs by country and by sector (c) conditions for the creation of investment funds for LDCs.

More than 50 funds invest in microfinance.

At the end of the biennium, 9,923 million, or 49.2 per cent of the Fund apos s investments, were in currencies other than the United States dollar.
