(a) At its 2000 session, the Committee established an informal working group on NGOs, which meets regularly throughout the year to discuss a wide range of technical issues in order to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Committee

According to data from Women Workers and Unions in Europe on the two major unions, women represented only 18 per cent of the members of the Unión General de Trabajadores and only 13 per cent of the members of Comisiones Obreras in 1992.

The Committee's web site had also become a useful tool both for members and for others interested in its work.

The strength of the subregional offices is at the level of 21 per cent of all ECA professional staff or 14 per cent of all ECA staff, including General Service.

The working group requested the secretariat to enable Mr. Thiam to attend the next session of the African Commission in order to facilitate his work and that of the working group.

The commission participates in the work of the ICFTU (International Confederation of Free Trade Unions) Women's Committee.

The Staff Union in New York, as well as the Coordinating Committee for International Staff Unions and Associations, and the Federation of International Civil Servants' Associations, are also involved in this review.

The Advisory Committee felt that if the workload continued to increase, it might be necessary to examine the cost effectiveness of using temporary services against that of using staff on board.

(h) Any case relating to a staff member serving at a duty station where a standing Joint Disciplinary Committee is established shall be referred to that Committee, unless the Secretary General considers there is a good reason to refer the case to a standing Committee at a different duty station or to an ad hoc Committee at the same or another duty station.

The Committee may refer any communication to a working group to make recommendations to the Committee on the merits of the communication.
