Among the higher education institutions are the faculties, academies and high schools.

Faculties, academies, and colleges function within the framework of higher education institutions.

The Law On Establishments of Higher Education allows colleges supervised by higher education establishments to provide professional education for a period of time that is less than four years.

The provincial education departments are responsible for primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the respective provinces.

The State is improving education processes both in general education institutions and in secondary vocational and higher learning institutions.

Higher and high education is received in higher schools, faculties and art academies.

Higher education starts after the baccalaureate and comprises three levels higher technical, also known as associate vocational, the bachelor's degree and postgraduate.

ii. Higher education (Higher Professional Education (HBO) and Universities)

Secondary education is available to the General Certificate of Education A Level. Higher education is provided by the University of the West Indies. The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College offers associate degree courses and technical education.

There are 10 national universities and a number of technical institutes and professional colleges providing university level higher education.

As a rule, it is necessary to have followed 12 years of school education and to have passed a final examination (entrance qualification for higher technical colleges) to have access to a higher technical college.

Current educational system The Law On Education, currently in force, provides the following levels of education pre school education, primary education secondary education higher education.

A leaving certificate from a higher technical college entitles the holder to continue his studies at a university or equivalent higher education institution.

Upper secondary education includes a baccalaureate level and technical vocational education.

357. At the higher educational level, where the prerequisite is completion of secondary school, existing alternatives include the technical institutes (IST), the teacher training institutes (ISP) and the universities.

Higher vocational education in the country is performed on the basis of general secondary, beginning vocational and secondary vocational education, and colleges of higher vocational schools and in State institutions of higher vocational education, including private institutions.

With regard to access, upper secondary and higher education institutions usually hold selection examinations before accepting pupils into the first year.
