Drug control activities of the World Bank are presented in section III below.

The Section also participated in various meetings related to global crime and drug trends and the development of drug and crime indices.

IV.60 The Advisory Committee notes that section 16 represents the first effort to combine drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice.

For 2006 2007, the Secretary General proposed a programme budget totalling 33,043,800 under section 16, International drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice.

Section VIII of the questionnaire, on drug demand reduction, was designed along the lines of the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Declaration on the Guiding Principles of Drug Demand Reduction (General Assembly resolution 54 132, annex).

The responses to this section also provide an indication of the level of decentralization of drug demand reduction efforts and the local ownership of programmes.

In section I of the present report, the programme support arrangement for the Fund of the United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP) is discussed.

In section A of chapter I global developments are summarized by type of drug, that is, opiates, cocaine, cannabis and psychotropic and controlled precursor substances.

In section VIII, subsection A, of the biennial reports questionnaire, entitled The commitment , States are asked to provide information on a national strategy for drug demand reduction and whether it is based on data on the drug abuse situation.

The Department comprises the Protection Operations Support Section, Protection Policy and Legal Advice Section, Protection Capacity Section, Resettlement Section and Protection Information Section.

The General Assembly, in its resolution 51 64, section II, called upon all States to adopt adequate national laws and regulations, to strengthen national judicial systems and to carry out effective drug control activities in cooperation with other States in accordance with the international drug control treaties.

The programme of that section required revision to align it with the medium term plan, and more information was required on the implementation of drug control and crime prevention programmes.
