Technical standards, including standards at the international level, are also being discussed (including definitional questions of technical and international standards, and how harmonization with international standards should be linked to the fulfilment of the objectives of VI.4).

Private standards and technical regulations, set by major importers, supermarket chains, etc., will gain in importance, and will be more stringent than national or regional standards and technical regulations.

International standards, including technical standards and sanitary and phytosanitary standards, can also pose an additional challenge to developing countries with regard to accessing international markets.

Its Forty Recommendations, originally issued in 1990 and revised in 2003, provide detailed technical standards.

Technical and policy support has also been provided to the Ministry of Public Health in the establishment of norms and standards for maternal and newborn health care.

He called attention to the technical and financial implications of new security measures and environmental standards, and welcomed UNCTAD's work on the interlinkage between security and trade facilitation.

In the absence of necessary and sufficient disciplines, a risk exists that technical regulations and standards could be abused and adopted and applied solely to protect domestic industries.

In order to obtain bilateral technical assistance, the Transitional Government needs to clearly demonstrate that it understands the importance of good safety and security standards in the civil aviation sector.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group proposed an action plan in March 2005 to develop technical standards in support of telecommunications for disaster preparedness and early warning.
