Laws enacted or amended. The Pakistan Citizenship Act 1951 was amended to give children of Pakistani women married to foreigners the right to Pakistani nationality.

Japan, for its part, had adopted an amended Immigration Control Act and established a new system whereby applicants for refugee status could stay in the country under specific conditions.

Federal Act No. 74 F of 21 July 2004 had amended articles 57 and 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which increased the penalties for acts of terrorism to as much as life imprisonment.
