Further decisive progress towards nuclear disarmament has become an expectation of the new era.

Nuclear disarmament is only one of the disarmament issues that mankind faces in this era.

This knowledge was a contributing factor to the prevention of nuclear war during the cold war era.

We firmly hold that the determined and rapid preparation for the post nuclear era must start now.

While these instruments do not represent any new technology, they signal a new aspect of the nuclear era.

Specifically, hopes were raised that the pace of nuclear disarmament could now be speeded up. There has been undeniable progress on nuclear disarmament in the post cold war era.

The current era is the atomic era.

And what happened was when we get in to chapter two of the nuclear threat era, which started back in 1945.

It was not reasonable to expect that the Treaty, conceived in the cold war era, could deal effectively with the risks of nuclear terrorism.

In Europe, Fukushima prompted a media blitz of gloom and doom over nuclear energy. The German magazine Der Spiegel heralded the 9 11 of the nuclear industry and the end of the nuclear era, while Spain s leading newspaper El Pais preached that supporting this energy was irrational, and that China has put a brake on its nuclear ambitions.

China has always honoured this commitment, be it during the cold war era, when we were faced with the nuclear threat or nuclear blackmail, or in the post cold war period, when we witnessed dramatic changes in the international security situation.

The work that this Committee has done in calling for negotiations leading to a nuclear weapons convention must be stepped up.
