During the reporting period, the contractor deployed an average of 137 expatriate personnel and 990 local personnel.

The repatriation of other contingent personnel was provided for in the prior reporting period.

The revised and actual deployment of civilian and military personnel for the reporting period is contained in annex III. Annex IV provides the authorized staffing, incumbency and vacancy rates for military and civilian personnel for the reporting period.

Civilian personnel who lost their lives during the reporting period (1 July 2004 30 June 2005)

The amount apportioned for the reporting period provided for the round trip rotation travel of 775 infantry personnel and 129 support personnel at 1,400 per person.

During the reporting period, 33 United Nations personnel were abducted and held hostage in eight separate incidents.

According to the same report, a total of 151 international observation and reporting personnel are to be based in Iraq.

21. Information on the deployment of civilian personnel during the reporting period is presented in table 4 below and annex VI.

At the end of the reporting period, there were 4,361 AMIS personnel in Darfur, of whom 3,690 were military and 634 civilian police.

There was a need to educate mission personnel about the code of conduct and to establish a focal point for reporting of allegations.

Actual requirements for these items were lower by 145,900 owing to the lower number of international contractual personnel retained during the reporting period.

16. Information on the deployment of military and civilian personnel during the reporting period is presented in table 2 and in annex III.

During the reporting period, UNMIL launched investigations into 16 more cases of allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse involving civilian, police and military personnel.

Individual donors and NGOs are also increasingly concerned with the need to regulate humanitarian activities through verifiable training standards, personnel practices and reporting procedures.

This included the introduction of a personnel activity report in April 1998, which was intended to improve the reporting of personnel data from the field to Headquarters, allowing for better coordination of staffing requirements between various missions

During the reporting period, the police personnel have been operating from the Central Division in Freetown, as well as from Kenema, Bo, Makeni and Lungi.

14. Information on the deployment of military observers and civilian personnel during the reporting period is presented in table 2 and detailed in annex III.

The security incident reporting system is a centrally hosted application designed for field security coordination officers to input security incident reports pertaining to United Nations personnel.

During the reporting period, a total of 6,269 staff days of training were provided to medical, nursing and paramedical personnel in the Agency's areas of operation.

4. The Committee notes that the unencumbered balance results primarily from reduced expenditures in military personnel ( 578,200), reflecting a 10 per cent vacancy rate and reduced expenditures for civilian personnel ( 611,900), reflecting a 7 per cent vacancy rate during the reporting period.

They set conditions, if any, with respect to entry and establishment ownership and control requirements sectoral restrictions authorisation and reporting and operations (including performance requirements, licenses, personnel requirements).

The unutilized balance of 600 was due to the lower number of contingent personnel deployed in the reporting period than was anticipated, as indicated in paragraph 1 above.

During the reporting period, the actual strength of staff officers averaged 56 personnel, resulting in an expenditure of 1,040,700 and an unutilized balance of 207,600 under this heading.

Variances between the apportioned resources and recorded expenditures are set out in column 7. Supplementary information in respect of the expenditures is provided in annex II.
