Included in the expenditures under this line item is an amount of 81,844 from the prior mandate period for telephone rentals ( 10,535), long distance telephone charges ( 66,275) and pouch charges ( 5,034).

Provision is made in the amount of 6,600 for telephone rental and local telephone charges and of 4,400 for office supplies.

(c) Telephone, telex and pouch charges at a rate of 12,200 per month ( 141,500)

Requirements under this heading of 9,900 provide for telephone calls ( 4,500), postage ( 1,900) and pouch charges ( 3,500).

In addition, provision of 3,000 is requested for telephone rental and local charges and 2,000 for office supplies.

Of the apportioned amount of 253,600, total expenditures of 180,700 were incurred for INTELSAT charges ( 100,600), telephone, long distance ( 48,300), telephone, local ( 6,000), pouches DHL ( 25,200) and postage ( 600).

A provision of 70,100 is required for commercial communications, consisting of INMARSAT quot M quot charges ( 9,600), INMARSAT quot C quot charges ( 2,400) and the INTELSAT transponder lease ( 3,500) charges for cellular phones telephone facsimile, postage and pouch ( 54,600).

An amount of 399,600 is proposed for communications links, including telephone, telefax and cable charges, between the Department and the field missions.

The recorded expenditure, including charges for prior periods, consists of (a) the UNAVEM share in the global transponder lease at a cost of 125,000 per quarter ( 500,000) (b) INTELSAT and INMARSAT charges ( 3,500,300) (c) local telephone charges ( 4,800) (d) pouch, facsimile and telex charges ( 109,500) and (e) postage for contingent personnel ( 91,100).

Included in the reported expenditures are charges pertaining to prior periods totalling 38,900 for telephone communications ( 33,600) and pouch and postage services ( 5,300).

Provision of 33,700 is made under commercial communications for 2.5 months for the estimated cost of the INMARSAT usage charges ( 20,000) and local telephone communications charges ( 13,700) at a monthly rate of 8,000 and 5,500 respectively.

The unutilized balance of 1,600 was due to the actual cost of workshop equipment being less than budgeted. 32. Commercial communications. Provision of 536,000 was made for commercial communications. However, actual expenditure totalled 580,700, consisting of transponder user charges ( 42,500), INMARSAT charges ( 317,200), telex and telephone charges ( 200,600) and pouch and postage charges ( 20,400), resulting in the additional requirements of 44,700.

Provision of 444,000 is made for commercial communications for the 12 month period consisting of (a) transponder user charges at a rate of 7,500 per month ( 90,000) (b) INMARSAT charges at a rate of 12,500 per month ( 150,000) (c) telephone and telex charges at a rate of 14,500 per month ( 174,000) and (d) pouch and postage charges at a rate of 2,500 per month ( 30,000).

(b) Inter office vouchers not attributed by UNDP field offices to specific programmes UNITAR has received inter office vouchers from the field mentioning, for example, 79.88 for March 1998 telephone charges, or photocopy charges for December 1997 to April 1998 totalling 64.16.

49. Commercial communications. The estimate of 4,470,000 provided for transponder rental ( 336,000), 5 INMARSAT M terminals ( 330,000) and 133 INMARSAT C terminals ( 798,000) in respect of satellite communications. In addition, it included provision for telephone charges at a monthly cost of 253,000. Unutilized resources of 2,606,900 were due to fewer INMARSAT M terminals being required and to reduced utilization of commercial communications (telephone charges as well as installation costs).

The cost estimate provides for the purchase of one 250 line telephone exchange at a cost of 50,000 plus related freight charges at 12 per cent of the total cost ( 6,000).

Provision is made in the amount of 66,000 to cover pouch and mail services ( 25,000), telephone ( 20,000), Internal Standard Digital Network line ( 10,000) cellular phones ( 6,000) and internet connection charges ( 5,000).
