In the course of the campaign, two essay competitions on the topic of human trafficking were held.

Aiming at more successful fight against trafficking in human beings, a National Program for fight against trafficking in human beings has been adopted, which envisages measures for prevention and fight against trafficking in human beings and for identification and reduction of economic and social factors that contribute to women and children becoming victims of trafficking.

Greece has developed an integrated programme of actions against human trafficking and trade, based on the coordination of co competent Ministries, which covers the entire range of actions related to trafficking, namely

In 2001 the National Action Plan to combat trafficking was formulated.

Human trafficking has also been made one of the offences under the Money Laundering Control Act whereby money and assets from human trafficking and its activities can be seized.

However, human trafficking and smuggling should be criminalized and action should be taken to punish the traffickers and smugglers.

The cluster on trafficking in human beings consists of the continuation of the action programme against trafficking in children for sexual purposes.

Within the campaign, training courses Community's role in the prevention of trafficking and Preventing human trafficking were organised.

These focal points would coordinate works among the concerned agencies from the respective sectors to protect and assist victims of human trafficking, develop policies, measures and campaigns, and disseminate information on human trafficking.

The smuggling of migrants and the trafficking of human beings for prostitution and labour exploitation were two areas of growing concern.
