Interest income is based only on amounts received and accrued from cash and term deposits relating to the financial period.

Interest due from cash and term deposits made in the financial period but not maturing until future periods is recorded as accounts receivable.

All funds received are deposited into the Tribunal's bank accounts, including those under special account arrangements (see note 6), and reflected as cash holdings.

Because the revolving loan structure matches borrowings to the borrower's cash conversion cycle (that is, acquiring inventory, selling inventory, creating receivables, receiving payment and acquiring more inventory to begin the cycle again), this structure is, from an economic standpoint, highly efficient and beneficial to the borrower, and helps the borrower to avoid borrowing more than it actually needs.

The amount retained out of programme activities funded by special purpose income, however, is shown as a transfer from special to general purpose funds being the effective recovery of these costs charged to general purpose expenditure through the biennial support budget but earned from special purpose income.

The organization earns interest income primarily from the cash and term deposit balances it maintains throughout the year.

Offshore employment has steadily increased and, with it, remittances to the Territory.

As at 28 February 1998, contributions received totalled 2,648.9 million, leaving a balance of outstanding assessments of 170.0 million, and cash balances amounted to 77.3 million.

The interest income is determined by the interest rates on United States dollar call accounts and short term deposits and the cash balance maintained by UNDCP.

The total number of electronic deposit recipients has increased from 127 to 138.

The allotments for specific purposes projects should only be issued after sufficient contributions have been received from donors.

20. A voluntary cash contribution of 4,000 has been received from the Government of Cyprus.

Total receipts for the two months are down from 556 million to 317 million a 43 per cent drop.
