While he welcomed the increased share of LDCs in overall UNCTAD expenditures, he felt that this share should increase further to reach 40 per cent.

However, with a growth rate significantly higher than for total retail trade, the share of e commerce in total retail trade is also growing.

Tourism remains buoyant, maintaining its share of the market with rising annual figures.

28. World trade in primary commodities has grown more slowly, and makes up a smaller share of total world trade than manufactured products.

The world has been witnessing a steady increase in global trade at a compounded annual growth rate of 2.2 per cent since the 1990s, with foreign trade as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) steadily increasing in major trading countries and country groupings.

It is true, however, that the developing countries share has increased significantly during recent years, a reflection of the fast rate of expansion of imports into the fast growing economies of South and East Asia.

Various measures can be used to define the dynamism of a specific product's evolution in global exports over time, including the rate of growth over alternative periods, the degree of growth stability, and changes of a product's share in total exports.

248. Between 1985 and 1993 a considerable growth in expenditures for social security was noted, expressed as a share of GDP.

But there remains the question of whether consumption share growth is sustainable that is, whether it is the result of income share growth or rising leverage. If it is supported by excessive leverage, effectively shifting future consumption to the present, China could face a significant slowdown or even a major crisis.

A slightly growing global market and a very small UNICEF market share of 1 per cent leaves room for growth for many years to come.
