On 21 August, the Multinational Force turned over Camp Zulu in as Suwayrah, Iraq, in the central south sector, to the Iraqi army.

Iraq alleged that the claimant did not object to the confiscation of his stock by Iraqi authorities and that the claimant may have been a collaborator with Iraqi forces.

The multinational force continues to work with the Iraqi Government to train and equip the Iraqi security forces (ISF).

As a contributor to the Multinational Force, the United Kingdom will continue to work in close partnership with the Iraqi Government, assisting its efforts to ensure that Iraqi forces assume full responsibility for security and stability in Iraq as soon as possible.

Due to multinational force and Iraqi led operations, parts of Iraq previously under terrorist control are now under the control of the Iraqi Government.

In the face of that violence, Iraqis have been increasingly willing to assist the Iraqi and multinational forces.

While reiterating their own commitment, called on all other interested countries to respond to the request of Iraq to train and support the Iraqi security forces in their rebuilding.

Recognizing the request conveyed in the letter of 27 October 2005 from the Prime Minister of Iraq to the President of the Council, which is annexed to this resolution, to retain the presence of the multinational force in Iraq, and further recognizing the importance of consent of the sovereign Government of Iraq for the presence of the multinational force and of close coordination between the multinational force and that government,

Accordingly, joint headquarters have been established at the national and provincial levels to coordinate multinational force, Iraqi Ministry of Defence and Iraqi Ministry of Interior operations.

In March 2005, Iraqi and multinational forces received more than 400 intelligence tips from Iraqi citizens.

Turning to progress in training the Iraqi security forces, the Iraqi Government, working with the Multinational Force, has identified a force structure to meet Iraq's needs for internal and external security.

Until such time as the Iraqi security forces assume full responsibility for Iraq's security, we need the continued support of the international community, including the participation of the Multinational Force, in order to establish lasting peace and security in Iraq.

Iraqis continue to volunteer in large numbers to serve their country in the Iraqi security forces.

The Government had asked for a 12 month extension for the mandate of the multinational force in Iraq.

Iraqis also continue to volunteer for the ranks of the security forces, and those forces are assuming increased responsibility.

Even as the Multinational Force helps build and train the Iraqi security forces, Iraqi forces are employed in active combat operations.

The Multinational Security Transition Command and the Iraqi Ministries of Interior and Defence continue to work closely to recruit, train and equip Iraq's security forces.

The War Against Iraq s Children

As indicated earlier, nine claim files were transmitted to Iraq because the situs of all or some of the claimed losses was in Iraq, and one claim was transmitted to Iraq because the claimant claimed for losses relating to an invoice issued by an Iraqi party.

The multinational force is committed to staying the course in Iraq and will continue to assist the Iraqi Government in providing security.

In the long run, Iraqis want to defend themselves, and the multinational force is making progress in its goal of helping Iraqi security forces move towards self reliance.

The multinational force is serving its mandate and working with the Iraqi Government to build security and stability in Iraq.

The Multinational Force and Iraqi security forces have significantly stepped up their anti insurgent campaigns in and around Baghdad as well as in western Iraq.

In spite of the volatile security environment, we urge the Iraqi Government to do its utmost to ensure full respect for human rights by all Iraqi authorities, including the Iraqi security forces and the Iraqi police.

To strengthen security arrangements for United Nations staff in Iraq, a third United Nations personal security detail will deploy to Iraq in mid June.

After the aggression perpetrated against Iraq by the allied forces in 1991, no fly zones had been established in the north and south of Iraq under the pretext of protecting human rights.

It can therefore be estimated that a total of approximately 300 tons of DU was dropped on Iraq and Iraqi forces in Kuwait.

I would like to convey the greetings of the people of Iraqi Kurdistan, which is part of Iraq, to the Assembly.

The determination of the United States of America to intervene militarily in northern Iraq was impeding the achievement of tangible democratic progress at the national level.

Following Iraq s invasion of Kuwait, the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs evacuated its diplomats from Kuwait and Iraq.
