Twelve ministers come from CNDD FDD, three from the Front pour la démocratie au Burundi (FRODEBU), one from the Parti de l'unite pour le progrès national (UPRONA), one from Inkinzo, one from the Mouvement pour la réhabilitation du citoyen (MRC) and one from the Parti pour le redressement national (PARENA).

The last legislative elections were held on 2 November 2004, which resulted in the election of 15 senators, namely, 10 Democrats, 3 members of the Independent Citizens' Movement and 2 non party affiliates.

These included the Congress for Democratic Change, which won 15 seats, the Liberty Party, which secured nine, and the Unity Party, which won eight.
