The UNDG Working Group on Common Premises and Services is currently preparing guidelines for common premises.

UNICEF has also been actively involved, along with other common system organizations, in the establishment of Local Expatriate Spouses Associations (LESAs) in field duty stations.

The UNDG working group on common premises and services, chaired by UNFPA in 2005, has provided guidance to United Nations country teams and, where appropriate, undertaken missions to launch the common services programme.

And although there had been progress since 2001, much remained to be done by way of harmonizing and simplifying the programming and management instruments and procedures, including the expansion of joint programming, increased use of common services, and establishment of common premises and joint offices.

UNOPS has become a member of the Working Group on Common Services, to which it will contribute its experience in this area.

In 2005, the efforts of the working group focused on renovating existing United Nations houses and common premises and examining proposals for new ones.

This would require the development of existing common guidelines into a comprehensive system wide model, which would articulate common policy principles but also common practical procedures especially with respect to e procurement methods, common thresholds at field duty stations and standard quality outcomes of the process.
