The Committee expressed its appreciation to the Niger for the payment of the second instalment under its multi year payment plan in 2005.

The Secretary General would like to express his appreciation to the 23 Member States that had paid all peacekeeping assessments due and payable by 30 April 2005.

Consequently, the commitment authority valid through 31 December 2004 to support a subvention had been held unused and was being surrendered in lieu of a request for an appropriation for the period corresponding to 1 January 2005 to 30 June 2005.

The compulsory short term payments cover

During the period from 1 July 2004 to 31 January 2005, 70 per cent of those obligations were disbursed, and the remaining obligations of 6.3 million will be disbursed by 30 June 2005.

By 30 April 2005, payments of 1.466 billion had been received for peacekeeping operations. The amount outstanding, due and payable had fallen to 1.207 billion, and only the United States and Ukraine still owed over 100 million.

UNDP has made an accounting accrual of 27 million for the year ended 31 December 2004. This amount is over and above disbursements by UNDP for after service health insurance, which are included as part of biennial support budget expenditure.
