Special purpose contributions represented 71.1 per cent of total extrabudgetary income and general purpose contributions accounted for 28.9 per cent.

Magnitude of contributions refers to the gross figure, whereas scale refers to the contribution as a percentage of a Member State's gross domestic product.

The largest contributor owed 77 per cent of the regular budget aggregate amount, while two of the next 14 principal contributors owed 9 per cent and all other Member States in arrears owed 14 per cent of the total.

Donors representing 25.3 per cent of the contributions in 2004 expressed a preference for a transfer to the General Trust Fund (RO), donors representing 39.0 per cent of the contributions in 2004 expressed preference for a transfer to the Special Trust Fund (RV) and one donor representing 35.7 per cent of the contributions in 2004 expressed no preference.

As the sixth largest contributor, its contributions to the restructured GEF accounts for five per cent of total pledges.

During the biennium 1994 1995, 59 States and the European Commission contributed to the Fund, 16 States and the European Commission providing 96.9 per cent of the total.

Contributions from developed countries accounted for approximately two thirds of total contributions to trust funds, reaching 17.4 million in 2004, an increase of 6.3 per cent over the previous year.

Upon request, the Committee was provided with information concerning the percentage contribution of the 15 major donors to the Fund from 2000 to 2005.
