This figure, as shown in table 6, includes estimated contributions of 100,289,000 incorporating 27,559,000 for general purpose contributions, which decrease by 9.6 per cent compared to those for 1996 1997, and 72,730,000 for special purpose contributions, which increase by 14.3 per cent.

However, the Office agrees to continue to try to persuade donors to honour their commitments and to pay their contributions in a timely manner, if possible during the year for which the pledge was made.

While both general purpose and special purpose contributions recorded an all time high, there remains an imbalance between the two types of contributions.
