(a) Workers and employees having employment contracts

95. The Wages Boards Ordinance is applicable to persons employed in any trade.

Many of these projects put an emphasis on those jobs related to the construction industry, with the aim of helping the unemployed and, especially, demobilized soldiers to get employment in these areas, having in mind that the industrial reconstruction is the main source of employment.

The Committee remains concerned about the employment of children in industrial and agricultural activities.

2. Rules regarding employment of staff members dependents

Because the market is directly related to the employment problem, we have to strengthen the employment skills training of employees.

93. It is estimated that approximately 60 per cent of the total employed population is covered by wages boards.

In the context of service control and legal control, the Land ministries of justice examine whether the actions of prison staff are legal. Specialist control entails examining whether staff also act in accordance with their profession.

Further, a large number of people have fictitious employment, and receive no salary or benefits.

Under the Employment Insurance Act, the Canada Employment Insurance Commission has established Employment Benefits and Support Measures (EBSM) that provide active measures designed to assist unemployed Canadians return to work.

In 1992, of the total number of around 226,000 such juveniles, 48 per cent worked in industry, 20.8 per cent in trade and 12.5 per cent in construction.

Wages boards 84. Wages boards set up under the Wages Boards Ordinance determine wages in a number of industries, services and plantations on a tripartite basis.

The Subcommittee on Integration into Employment is a body coordinating the work of its component institutions on the integration of handicapped persons into employment by means of joint projects.
