17. Fixed wing (number) AN 26

The air assets fleet consists of 1 fixed wing and 13 rotary wing aircraft for the period 1 July to 31 December 2005 and of 1 fixed wing and 2 rotary wing aircraft for the period 1 January to 30 June 2006, compared to 1 fixed wing and 28 rotary wing aircraft for the full 12 month period in 2004 05.

This post is required because of the deployment of two helicopters and one fixed wing aircraft.

(g) Delayed deployment of air assets with the actual deployment of two aircraft (1 helicopter and one fixed wing aircraft) instead of the six aircraft anticipated.

Additional requirements are largely attributable to the planned deployment of 26 additional aircraft (6 fixed wing and 20 helicopters), combined with a 16.5 per cent increase in the cost of fuel.

From this fleet, 5 fixed wing aircraft (2 heavy cargo and 3 medium STOL cargo passenger aircraft) and 15 helicopters (1 heavy cargo and 14 long range cargo passenger helicopters) would be used to provide the dedicated support for elections.

22. Based on the operational requirements of the Mission, two aircraft would be deployed to the Mission area, consisting of one MI 8 helicopter and one B 200 (Beechcraft) fixed wing aircraft.

The Mission's fleet of 6 additional fixed wing aircraft would comprise 3 short take off and landing passenger aircraft, 1 medium cargo short take off and landing aircraft and 2 C 130 military transport aircraft provided under letter of assist arrangements.

The Mission's fleet of 30 fixed wing aircraft would comprise 6 heavy, 19 medium cargo and passenger and 5 light aircraft, including 18 heavy and medium cargo aircraft, of which 12 have the capability of taking off landing on short runways (STOL), and 12 passenger aircraft, of which 7 have the capability of taking off landing on short runways (STOL).

Provision was made for ground handling charges for one fixed wing aircraft at a rate of 3,700 per aircraft per month.

The value of a fixed wing aircraft provided by the Government of Belgium has been estimated at 297,500.

The estimates for air transportation included operating costs, liability insurance and fuel for a fleet of 12 fixed wing and 11 rotary wing aircraft for the first period and, under the revised deployment schedule, of 18 fixed wing and 37 rotary wing aircraft for the second.

Based on the deployment of fixed wing aircraft on 1 May 1998 and of 2 helicopters one each on 1 June and 1 July 1998.

The variance, as explained in paragraph 20 of the proposed budget (A 59 629), is due mainly to the increase in costs associated with the new commercial contract for two cargo and one passenger fixed wing aircraft and three rotary wing aircraft.

Provision is made for positioning depositioning costs of a fixed wing aircraft should the current aircraft be replaced upon the expiration of the lease ( 8,000).
