On 16 February 2005, the NI Unit participated in the meeting of the European Coordinating Group of National Institutions, hosted by the Commission nationale consultative des droits de l'homme in Paris, and met with the Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie to strengthen cooperation between the NI Unit and the Agence.

The choice of an institution to represent the NIs of a particular State is for the relevant institutions to determine.

The Unit has one staff member working exclusively on treaty body and NHRI issues.
