Austria reported that it had signed the United Nations Convention against Corruption during the High level Political Signing Conference held in Merida, Mexico, in December 2003.

3. Decides to convene the high level political conference for the purpose of signing the convention in Mexico by the end of 2003

For ease of reference, the relevant conventions signed by Mexico are listed below

1. This Convention shall be open to all States for signature from 9 to 11 December 2003 in Merida, Mexico, and thereafter at United Nations Headquarters in New York until 9 December 2005.

2. Adopts the United Nations Convention against Corruption annexed to the present resolution, and opens it for signature at the High level Political Signing Conference to be held in Merida, Mexico, from 9 to 11 December 2003, in accordance with resolution 57 169

In 2000 it signed a free trade agreement with Mexico and subsequently with the Dominican Republic. It has also signed partial scope agreements with Colombia, Cuba, Panama and Venezuela.

It is reported that the existing North American Free Trade Agreement was signed by the United States, Mexico and Canda in 1994.

2. Accepts with appreciation the offer made by the Government of Mexico to host a high level political conference for the purpose of signing the convention

Canada has also signed agreements with Chile, Mexico and the United Kingdom, as well as a tripartite agreement with Australia and New Zealand (these latter two countries have separately signed a tripartite agreement with the United Kingdom).

Latvia favours the universalization of the Additional Protocol and urges all the countries who have not yet signed this document to do so.

During the High level Political Conference for the Purpose of Signing the United Nations Convention against Corruption, held in Merida, Mexico, from 9 to 11 December 2003, 95 States signed the Convention, and one State deposited its instrument of ratification.

It welcomed the outcome of the Conference of States Parties and Signatories to Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaties, held in Mexico City from 26 to 28 April.

In that regard, he welcomed the convening in Mexico City in April 2005 of the Conference of States Parties and Signatories of Treaties that Establish Nuclear Weapon Free Zones.
