Noting the progress made during the second part of the Conference,

Recalling the second part of the Conference, which took place from 14 to 18 February 2005,

The space exhibition will be held during the first week of the Conference at the Austria Center.

This arrangement enabled the Commission on Sustainable Development, during its regular sessions, to continue with its mandated work throughout the preparatory period for the special session on Agenda 21.

We look forward to further progress being made during the current session of the General Assembly on this matter.

Four major space programmes have been carried out during this period.

The international community needs to remain engaged during the period of transition from relief to development.

The Working Group agreed that, to begin its intersessional work, the Working Group on Space Debris should hold an intersessional meeting from 13 to 16 June 2005, during the forty eighth session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Very substantial progress on this question must be made during the present session.

The cycle of meetings (the Commission session in spring the United Nations General Assembly in autumn) is such that the Third Committee of the General Assembly is well placed to consider developments in the interim since the Commission session.

A selection of the drawings are displayed during ICA International Cartographic Conferences, and 5 to 15 receive an award.

The Director of the Division for Social Policy and Develop ment responded to points raised during the discussion.

The Council examined the University s work in the final year of its second Medium term Perspective, for the period 1990 1995, and reviewed the draft third Medium term Perspective, which will cover the period from 1996 to 2001.

The Meeting also noted that organizations of the United Nations system interested in participating in the organization of the space exhibition at the Conference site would be offered space to set up booths free of charge.

Poster sessions A series of scientific poster sessions should be held at the conference facility and be open to participants and observers throughout the conference.

Zambia would therefore like to see, during this session of the General Assembly, progress on the proposal to convene an international conference on the financing of development.

The working group would meet again in 1999 during the forty third session of the Commission to continue its work.

Throughout 2004, efforts were made to build a proactive relationship between the CSTD and UNCTAD, and a number of joint initiatives were carried out.

A range of other activities were undertaken by the ACSJC in the reporting period.

4. In the course of the year, the Committee followed closely the developments in the region.

The reporting period witnessed continuing progress in the area of human rights.

During the period under review, a number of activities took place, as described below.

Various exhibits and presentations will be taking place throughout the Conference.

Such an exhibition is now being held, at the United Nations during the Review Conference, with the support of the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations.

The Committee recommends to the State party that it continue consulting with organizations of civil society working in the area of combating racial discrimination during the preparation of the next periodic report.

I look forward to our cooperation during the Romanian presidency of the Council of Europe, which is going to start in November.

That is why, in that context, I am pleased with the progress made during the summit.
