The Professional Training Series is potentially the most serious and valuable set of publications.

In particular, the establishment of mission training cells by the Training and Evaluation Service, the pre deployment training of UNMO team leaders, and the introduction of course curricula based on standardized training modules are commended.

54. At its fiftieth session, the General Assembly in its resolution 50 121 had reaffirmed the relevance of UNITAR, particularly in view of the many training requirements of all Member States.

The Committee stresses that the lack of an effective means to evaluate training remains a very significant drawback of the training activities of the Organization.

Specific training (training for academics, training for judges)

The courses include core values and core competencies training (four per year), team building (two per year), peacekeeping planning and management (one per year) and senior leadership induction (one per year) .

Every attempt is made to select the most suitable candidates, and substantial time is spent in training them and in supervising and reviewing their work. With proper training and supervision, which involves a substantial commitment of time by staff members, the contribution made by interns is often valuable.

The first of these was a one week train the trainers course, attended by all UNHCR field staff safety advisers (FSSAs), training them to teach the United Nations system security awareness training package.
